ENBOARD - Evaluation of Nasal Biomarkers for Objective Assessment of Disease Severity

Melbourne, Australia

ENBOARD aims to investigate the relationship between nasal molecular biomarkers and disease severity in individuals with chronic respiratory conditions, such as asthma, chronic sinusitis, and COPD, as well as in healthy controls. The study focuses on developing non-invasive diagnostic tools by identifying and validating nasal biomarkers that can provide objective insights into disease progression and treatment efficacy.

Criteria

  • 250 participants needed.

  • Healthy volunteers: Individuals with no history of respiratory disorders.

  • Participants with chronic respiratory conditions including asthma, chronic sinusitis and COPD (especially active or moderate/severe disease).

What's involved:

  • A single 1-2hr site visit in Notting Hill, Melbourne

  • Involves specimen collection and respiratory testing

  • This is an observational study only, no drugs will be administered

NSCER - Nasal Sampling for Clinical Evaluation
and Research

Pennsylvania, United States

NSCER was designed to evaluate the potential of nasal fluid biomarkers for respiratory health assessment and disease monitoring. The study aimed to establish baseline biomarker profiles in healthy individuals and compare them with profiles from participants with a history of nasal diseases, including chronic rhinosinusitis and other conditions providing valuable insights into disease mechanisms and diagnostic opportunities.

Faqs

General questions

Why are these studies important?

These studies aim to advance non-invasive diagnostic tools, improving how respiratory diseases are detected, monitored, and managed.

Who can participate in these studies?

Healthy individuals and those with conditions like asthma, chronic sinusitis, or COPD.

What are nasal biomarkers?

Nasal biomarkers are biological molecules in nasal fluid that can provide insights into respiratory health and disease.

How do these studies contribute to healthcare?

By uncovering biomarkers, they enable the development of precision diagnostics and personalized treatments for respiratory diseases.

Participation questions

What will I need to do as a participant?

Provide nasal, blood, or saliva samples, answer health-related questions, and potentially undergo additional tests.

How much time will I need to commit?

Study duration varies, but most visits are brief at around 1 hour.

Do I need to visit the study site?

Yes, participation typically involves visiting a designated clinic or research centre for sample collection.

Will I be compensated?

Yes, these studies offer compensation for time and travel; details will be shared during the consent process.

What if I don’t meet the eligibility criteria?

You will not be able to participate, but the team may guide you to other research opportunities.
